Jillian Pagano
Jillian Pagano is a 29-year-old woman who has worked as a nanny for the past five years. She is a nanny of two young children and is a new mother to her one year old daughter, Natalie.
When asked why she picked this career, Jill explained that she taught at a daycare with a lot of young children, but she was then given the opportunity to work as a nanny to one child and his newborn sister. The switch was an easy one to make because she had always wanted a one-on-one and more personal childcare experience.
Her favorite part the job has been watching the kids grow and achieve milestones. When she began as their nanny, they had only been two years and 3-months old, but now Jill has watched them grow through many stages of life over the past five years. She said that knowing she was a part of their journey is the most rewarding part of the job.
Since she has worked with children for a number of years and she is now a mother herself, we asked Jill what she thinks is the most important thing she can do as a mother in the current climate of the world. Right away she said that it is important that we teach our children to know right from wrong, and that they try their hardest to be good people. She said that there is a lot of negativity in the world right now and that we have to make it our duty to be good role models for our children.
Jill feels as though society needs better representation of equality in the workplace and safer work environments for women. She said that our society needs to stop acting as if young women can’t achieve certain things based on their gender, and that they need to stop holding women to a lesser standard than men. She also believes that discrimination needs to end against all identities, not only gender, but race, status, and orientation as well.
Before we ended our interview, we asked Jill for the one thing she wants for Natalie. She said that her one wish for her daughter is happiness: “The main thing I want for Natalie is for her to grow up happy. As happy as she is now.”
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and personal experiences with us Jill! We know Natalie will have an amazing role model.
